Can anyone tell me what the average turnover ratio is? I'm looking to rate our recruiter who is averaging about 18% turnover within 90 days of hire. That is based on 100 new hires within 1 year.

Can anyone tell me what the average turnover ratio is? I'm looking to rate our recruiter who is averaging about 18% turnover within 90 days of hire. That is based on 100 new hires within 1 year.

That sounds high, but a couple of questions for you. What kind of employees are you hiring? What has been your traditional turnover rate? Who's making the hiring decision - the recruiter or the hiring manager?

It seems like a somewhat shallow analysis. Are these positions where a lot of training goes into the new employee up front? Are there basic skills and aptitudes that are missing from the employees that cause them to wash out? Even so, does the recruiter have sole hiring decision power?

If hiring managers are expressing dissatisfaction with the pool of interviewees, then that can be, directly, a recruiter problem.

If you're looking at turnover, then a host of other potential causes and factors confound any conclusions you might draw.

Who else interviewed and decided to hire these people? In most companies, that's the manager they are going to work for.

Some companies build their sales forces by casting a very wide blanket, bringing them all in and starting them on the phones, and letting attrition weed out all but the most aggressive. In that case, you'd expect turnover to be very high.

Other jobs simply are a grind, and yet again, some companies have cultures or climates or situations that send all but the most successful and/or desperate to the door at the first opportunity.

The further you get from perhaps the intial phone screen and or first interview, directly with that recruiter, the less any problems will have to do with the recruiter.
