Hi, my company does not have a formal process for advertising openings to current employess or handling their applications. They can look at job postings on the employee website but there are no further instructions. We would like a fair and consistent method of communicating to and handling internal applicants. We can't post jobs on a bulletin board as we have over a 100 openings at any time all over the world. Could anyone share their best practices?

Are you using an applicant tracking system? Most of the better ones have an internal job posting capability.

Hi there,
We have a fairly good process in place that works well. We also have locations all over the world so our process is done via email.
We have a policy to post all internal openings for a period of 7 days. A hiring manager contacts HR to prepare and distribute a posting. HR distributes the posting by email and requests that the posting be hung on the employee bulletin board at each location...for those employees that don't have email. The posting has an application deadline of 7 days later. We will often post externally at the same time, but are committed to giving our current employees the opportunity to learn about all of our postings and apply. We conduct interviews with every internal applicant to learn about their career objectives and provide some coaching.
Our process is fairly simple and doesn't take a lot of time to administer.

We send an email with the posting and the internal application attached. We include internal application instructions in the body of the email, and ask that supervisors make sure that employee's without email have access to the posting.

My company of about 1400 employees in 53 chapters and regional offices posts open positions on our intranet. Our HR Coordinator also sends out a weekly email to our top level executives and some others within the organization, who then filter it out to their respective chapters.
