I've been getting conflicting information about how long to keep job applications and resumes. According to the DFEH: employers must "preserve applications, personnel records, and employment referral records for a minimum of two years."

2 questions:

1)Does this mean we must go back and look at old applications every time we post a job opening? We've been sending out notices indicating that we will keep their resume and job application on file for six months should a position open up in the future that more closely match their qualifications. At that time we may contact them to see if you are interested.

2)Do we have to indicate we will keep it 2 years?
