Is there a legal reason that you must answer every application for a posted job?

Hi,
I would have to say I disagree with the previous post. It is dependant on what the ad may say...if it leaves it wide open not indicating either way as a Candidate I would be likely to think that I would get an email or a quick call from the Reception.
Most Applicant Tracking Systems have some sort of automated response to the applicants.
But again, it goes back to the ad, if it stated only those interviewed would be contacted then don't contact them, but if it was wide open...the choice is yours.
When it comes down to it, if my associate left an open ended ad. I would expect they would send the candidate an email if no interview at the very least. It is only proper.

The question was whether or not there is a legal requirement to respond to applicants to a posted job. The answer of "no" was correct.
Whether or not it's the polite thing to do would be another question.
