Has anyone ever been told this by their boss or client? Well, I've been told this by one of the Sr. Managers at my company. She said this came straight from the VP's (my boss) mouth, but he hasn't told me anything yet. We've never had to hire that many people in such a short time, so I must say I'm a little confused.
I've been in recruiting for about 3 years now, but hiring 30 new hires in 30 days seems a bit unrealistic to me.
Your thoughts...

Sure. I briefly worked for a call center company and "20 in 2 weeks" or "50 next month" was common.
Depends on what kind of people you need to hire. 30 rocket scientists in a month is unrealistic. But if all you want is minimum wage folks and past work history/experience isn't an issue, 30 is certainly doable.
Unless you live in a town with less than 30 residents....

It's an entry level position...basic computer & phone skills are the bare minimum for skills required, so it won't be hard to find people who are qualified. Being qualified is not enough for the hiring managers, they are fairly selective even though it's an entry level position. I am honestly appauled at some of the candidates that they decide to pass on. Basically what I'm trying to say is that if we need 30 new hires in 30 days...I'll need to pre-screen and interview at 60 to 70 candidates and hope at least 15 to 20 of them get offered a position by one of the managers.
YEP!!

This is the point at which you need to go to your boss and present your case. Your boss needs to go to the hiring managers/department heads and tell them to get realistic and be more open minded. But your boss will need numbers and examples.
At this level of new hire, your ratio of interviews to hires should be at least 50% and probably closer to 67% or 75%. That's partly on you - you need to be particularly sensitive to and understand what the objections to candidates are and screen accordingly.

Well, I don't think it is impossible. That is, once you have a selection criteria in place. I don't know if you do "walk-ins" (an ad calling for respondents to directly walk into your offices or at a suitable venue to get screened). You'll probably get more than 30 respondents for an entry level position in a single day!

We commonly hire approx. 20 people within one week at the start of our busy season.
From May 28th to June 5th of this year, I hired 20 employees. The next week, we added another 5.
They are mostly entry level, unskilled labor positions.
It's not impossible... just my least favorite week of the year!

Thank you all for your responses. After looking through my applicant tracking system, I realized that last spring I hired 33 new hires in about 4 weeks without focusing on any particular number. In all honesty, just hearing 30 new hires in 30 days seemed like a bit more than what we would normally hire and I was a bit confused. I have no doubt in my mind that we'll be able to accomplish this task with ease.
