Good morning all, I am a headhunter, a diverse attorney recruiter, for law firms and ih house corporate counsel legal departments. I have run into more HR and In house recruiters, that seem to have a distaste for the notion of diversity and inclusion, when they are accessing resumes for opportunities for the corporate legal department and for the majority of law firms in particular. I am trying to get a "truthful" response, as why so many of "you" are finding it hard to respond, to diverse candidates and why do many of you find utilize arbitary standards in contrast to mainstream( white) candidates?

I think it would be illogical to assume we are "all the same". It's unfortunate that you have run across some of us that don't accept your candidates, but generalizations are usually not a good idea.

I don't know about the difficulties of your industry, however, I was just struck with the generalization.

I work in a construction type environment, and don't seem to have the same situations.

I highly doubt that what you've run into is a "distaste for diversity and inclusion".

Corporate recruiters know what they need in candidates. They've been told by their corporate legal departments and the larger the company the more specific the requirements. And what they're typically told is "find me candidates with law degrees from a top [20 or 50 or 100] law school with experience in [insert specifics here]. I prefer candidates who graduated in the top 10% of their class, were on their law school's law review, and have 3 or more years of experience"

That's the hiring spec. I've never seen any corporate legal hiring manager say "and by the way, make sure the candidates are white and male".

If you are pushing diversity over qualifications, I can see how you're getting an impression that corporate recruiters are anti-diversity. They're not. You will find that corporate recruiters will be happy if not thrilled to get diversity candidates in the door who MEET or EXCEED the stated qualifications.
