Just needed some input.......

One of the other owners of our company would like to know when any applicant for a job has been convicted of a felony. He wants to use this information as a tie-breaker when hiring - as best I can tell.

This feels wrong to me - we have certain convictions that are deal breakers when hiring and that are job related. But even though he is an owner and has a right to the information I don't think he "needs to know" it. I am concerned about how he wants to use the info and I am worried that even though being convicted of a felony isn't a protected class as far as discrimination goes - it just isn't a good business practice.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Isn't this the reason companies do criminal background checks? If I was the owner I would want to know, too.

There are very few situations where consideration of a felony conviction in making a hiring decision could be problematic for your company. I think your concerns are unfounded.

If you need a criminal or any other background check done, go to www.allclearinvestigations.com

We can set you up with a Secure Login or have one of our private investigators do a comprehensive background check.
