I am representing a new software program called Skill Solutions developed by SynTact Solutions. One of the difficulties in getting this product to market is a slow sales process. By in large, this process is slow becasue organizations' technology plan dictates their system purchase and utilization plans (guess that's what the IS plan is all about). However, IS people don't always have a clear view of the value of a stand alone or integrated program to the organization. Hence, they are necessarily hesitant to do anything. Truth is, they are quite busy just keeping thins up and running (who would want more mess to deal with). Skill Solutions also runs on a web platform and we will even take 100% administrative and hosting responsibilities. I guess my question is this: Is remote hosting the way to go in todays market? I see a conflict between security requirements and the need to keep existing IS systems as simple as we can. Any thoughts.

By the way, Skill Solution can be reveiwed at:

if you have an interest.

Dean,

The challenge for driving sales of any new product can be addressed by 1) demonstrating value and 2) getting in front of as many new people as possible ... anyway possible. If your product/service has value and you can demonstrate how it provides value, it will sell. If your product solves a $500K problem and only cost $50K, the buyer doesn't need a pre-approved budget ... the value of your product/service will then speak for itself. Advice? Focus on value!

Regarding the remote hosting (ASP) model, anyone with half a brain should realize that it's not just the wave of the future, it's here now ... the Internet is here to stay. As the real issue of security has been resolved some time ago (it's good enough for the entire financial world ... billions transferred daily ... and international intellegence community ... CIA, NSA, DOD), the ASP model permits organizations to implement otherwise complex functionality very quickly and usually at a fraction of the cost of in-house hosted systems.
