The tough parts here are not the technical challenges but what to communicate to who. The best measures provide incentives to individual performance aligned with overall company objectives -- they are, excuse the consulting speak, 'actionable' -- that is they provide a clear means for the recipient to take action to improve company performance. For example, measures of turnover cost and rate by manager, employee performance rating, etc. help to focus managers on this critical issue in some companies.
We've helped a number of clients to develop a balanced scorecard and communications strategy through the use of data warehousing enabled for delivery of key performance measures on the web -- either an intranet or private internet connection. In the fullest solutions, the warehouse provides some historical context for the measures -- so that progress can be measured over time -- and is delivered in the context of an overall employee portal system -- so that other information and tools for action are available in the same framework. |
