Depending on the company, that particular question could take a deep, left turn into the chaos-zone.

For /> 60% of software engineers and associative development staff, that something [rewards] is recognition. For the most part, the individuals involved in the IT industry want to have their name somewhere publicly accessibly and be recognized.

For the remaining 40%, development staff look for internal rewards from the company.

As always, culture, location, and talent define this and much more.
