E-INITIATIVES IN HR
Discuss how to choose system that will yield the best results, as well as how to maintain it, and how to calculate its return on investment.
HI! I'M DOING A PROJECT ON E-INITIATIVES IN HR. CAN SOMEONE, IN SIMPLE TERMS, EXPLAIN THE SOFTWARE FOR ANY OF THE FUNCTIONS?

Hi,
It is very simple. There are in general two strategic choices: Suppliers with all integrated functionality brought to you by the web (for instance PeopleSoft 8 or Oracle 11i) Suppliers with best of breed products that are able to interface with HRIS (at least if they have the technology in place to communicate with these best of breed products. An example is SkillScape for competence management. Regards, Gijs Houtzagers www.houtzagers.com |

Hi, Anandita. You're doing a real interesting project.
One of the best things you can do is to think on these lines: What do you want to do electronically that'll help employees? I have recently conceptualized and developed an intranet website using simple Microsoft tools; it is what I call an HR Website: It gives policy information (one can access any benefit or other policy, standard operating procedures, labour laws, FAQs, etc.) just by a click of the button--at one's fingertips, that is. I have included provisions for Forms, which lead them to a collection of everyday use forms which they can take a print of. I'm sure it will reduce the barrage of questions that employees constantly ask HR as to how to claim a benefit, what are the statutory rules, etc. My seniors are very impressed and we envisage that unnecessary workload will drastically reduce. If wish to seek what further can be included in this type of web site, please feel to contact me at shant_mankodi@rediffmail.com. I suggest you also read (if you haven't already) Bill Gates' Business @ The Speed of Thought; especially the chapter on how Microsoft uses systems in their HR. Hope this is useful. Shant |
