We are currently looking at the current set up of our HRIS processes. I was wondering how other HRIS departments are set up.

- What HRIS software package do you use?
- How many employees are located in your HRIS department?
- What is the level or skill set of these employees?
- Are there standard reports from your HRIS system which are run by HRIS Analysts? Are there specific areas or departments who request these standard reports? How often do you run the reports? What other areas run reports (who has access to reporting)?
- How many ad hoc reports do you get requests for on a monthly basis? What type of information is requested?
- Do you use other software to query information in your HRIS system? If so, what do you use? For what type of reporting?
- What type of access does your management staff have to information in your HRIS?
- Do you use ESS/MSS? What functionality?

Any information you are willing to share would be appreciated. Thank you.

Health Care facility - HR Department - A total of19 employees in HR. The HR/Payroll system used is called INFINIUM. Have been using this product for over 10 years. Alot of flexibility on query report writing, stores history of all employee transactions, able to track employee accruals (vacation, sick, holiday, personal time, etc) produce FTE reports, etc.

HR generates standard reports such as list of overdue evaluations, list of future expirations of licenses, accrual information, fte reports, . Skill set of HRIS Assistants using the system, should have basic knowledge of computers. Also, gave line managers access to "display data" on their own employees, eliminating the need for line manager to call HR for basic information. All HR staff members trained on use of system (data entry, producing reports, etc)

Hope this is of some help to you.

I have previously worked for The Sharper Image and consulted for AirTouch communications (via my current consulting employer Zadek) and both companies used a dos HRIS. Ad Hoc reports were rampant. Great for job security but not efficient at all for other HR staff. MyHRIS by NuView Systems is a web-native HRIS which has over 150 standard reports in their application. It is available for rent (ASP) or purchase. Very user friendly. The HR staff can create reports and categorize them based on their usage or type (e.g. Recruiting, Benefits, John's reports, Sally's reports). ESS and MSS is available in this product as well. Manager's can have access to their own reports based on the security created in the application. For more information, contact me at (800) 782-1210 or Amanda Sherlock at (650) 565-9355. Our website is www.zadekinc.com and the NuView site is www.nuviewinc.com. Good luck in your search.

As I read your message, a couple thoughts come mind. Maybe you already have these bases covered?

Many HRIS implementations have not been successful for a variety or reasons. Companies must first streamline or re-engineer their activities with the technology, not just put new technology on top of old processes. To be done right, your exisitng processes must be carefully analyzed and costed out. Your initial needs analysis should have provided the answeres to the qusitons you are asking.

I don't know how far along you are in the process, but perhaps a current assessment of where are now and a vision of where you want to go would help define some of these variables.

We are satisfied with our HRIS System and what we are getting out of it. We are primarily interested in how other companies have set up their department in supporting HRIS. What do the positions look like - responsibilities, accountabilities, etc.
