I am looking for any information or recommendation on software available for succession planning. We have People Soft for the rest of our HR systems but the succession platform seems rigid and too position based for our changing environment and does not seem to serve our needs very well. I am interested in other options or recommendations and experience to build our own.

There are a number of niche vendors that provide packages on succession planning, career development & performance evaluation. For example, Kenexa, SuccessFactors, Knowledgepoint, Catapult to name a few. Some of the professional services automation vendors are expanding in the area as well, such as Changepoint.

There's always the option to build your own, as you mention in your post. We're a consulting firm and have recently developed & deployed a semi-annual performance evaluation application for our client recently. We reviewed a number of vendors but unfortunately found that they didn't meet some of our client's requirements.

My company has used the Extended DISC system for many iniatives. To learn more information about the system you can review some of the capabilities on the website at www.extendeddisc.com/usa. Or, you may contact me and will be happy to share some of my experiences with the tool.
The real advantage that I see of using Extended DISC is that the company has total control of how, when and the frequency of the utilization. All of the analysis and reporting capabilities is in-house - not consultant dependent.
You may contact me at joan@consultresources.com

Take a look at SUCCESSION Pulse (www.pilat-nai.com). It's been one of the leading products for over 20 years. Has both client/server and web versions with integrated 360 and performance management options.

There are a number of choices out there with respect to succession planning that are good (many have been listed in this forum). A needs analysis highlighting functional requirements, price, interfaces etc. might point you to the one that mostly closely aligns itself with your particular needs. I would be most happy to speak with you regarding a structured selection process utilizing a database of HR products that could help take the guesswork out of the selection phase. New from PNA, Inc. is NetTPS. it is a web-based diagnostic system that has 6 modules, 2 of which deal with individual and organizational role profiling. You can learn about it on: www.wipcoaching.com. There's a training for certification coming up in April so this might be perfect timing for you. Email me and I'll give you the details.
