Ceridian or ADP
Discuss how to choose system that will yield the best results, as well as how to maintain it, and how to calculate its return on investment.
We are considering Ceridian Source Link - Source 500 Interface to work with our PS V 7.5. Anyone have any comments about the Ceridian product?

We have used ADP for over 13 years and had had excellent customer service and no problems, but every so often we check out other services to see if there is something better. I have talked with several companies, including Ameripay. Does anyone have any experience with them? They use the Millennium software that several of you have spoken highly of, but I would like to know about tech support and other customer service issues and how well they respond.
Thanks.

It all depends upon your HR/Payroll system needs. In terms of comprehensive HRIS and Payroll needs, I have used ADP, Ceridian and Peoplesoft - not to mention some homegrown systems. Peoplesoft has the most power but at an extreme cost. ADP had the absolute worst customer service - the main issue that drove us away.
Ceridian has excellent service and we've been reasonably happy - let's face it, you'll have some level of "noise" at some point. While it's true that their reporting tool - Crystal Reports - is very difficult, rumor has it that they are working with a new vendor.

We used ADP for 2-1/2 years, and I thought the system and the customer support was excellent. However, two issues recently made me rethink their services and I switched to Paychex. First, ADP's rates, when you subscribe to the payroll, HR, and Report Smith modules, finally exceeded the value of the services. We were spending nearly $1000/month,(plus quarter tax filing fees) and we only have 40 employees. Secondly, when I upgraded to the latest software version, I was dismayed to find out that Report Smith not only conflicted with another business software our company uses, but the new version had become more cumbersom to use. I switched to Paychex, and the cost is almost 50% less than ADP. But you get what you pay for. Customer Service at Paychex is non-existent, and their report writer module is not user-friendly. They admitedly still have a lot of kinks in their software, but no prediction as to when they will be fixed. The HR system looks like it has bells and whistles, but they are non-functioning. Forget global changes. Right now I have to satisfy myself with the cost savings, but this is not going to be a long-term relationship unless their service improves.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this posting email to me this morning. We have just implemented Ceridian over ADP this month and it has been a huge mess since the first payroll. The transfer of employee records left many gaps so that a number of employees were not paid the first time. A lot of data in employee records in ADP (review dates for one) did not transfer. The system is very slow and the security logs you out after a short time which is frustrating. Plus, it is confusing figuring out where to change things so one goes in to the other (payroll versus HR). This is just a few of the problems we've had. And the reporting - I acknowledged that ReportSmith was difficult but it is a breeze compared to Ceridian's reports - you can't manipulate them and the time it takes to learn how to work with them is immeasurable at this time. So, right now, I would rather have not changed. I think Ceridian has a lot of bells and whistles for HR and I'm truly hoping that as time moves on, we'll be able to get past the numerous glitchs and get to use those bells and whistles. My recommendation? Makes sure you know EXACTLY what will transfer and what won't. Don't just listen to sales people - figure out all the things you like about ADP and get Ceridian to show you they can match. Good luck to anyone getting ready to implement Ceridian - I hope it goes smoother for you!

Switched from ADP to Paychex last year. Regret the switch. Lots of hidden and extra costs with Paychex. ADP much more professional.

I'm not sure what the purpose of this discussion is, but it's quite clear that you are going to receive responses that are extrememly varied based upon many individuals' experiences with either of these products.
Likewise, the individuals' expertise is going to be quite varied, ranging from the clerical employee who must accept the system that management has selected, to the management individual responsible for selecting the product.
Bottom line is this--a thorough analysis of the company's particular needs must be undertaken in selecting either an internally-based payroll software or an external one supplied by a payroll processing service.
I have many years of experience in analyzing, evaluating and implementing HRIS/Payroll systems. I am happy to discuss this further, if you wish.
Both ADP and Ceridian are exceptional products with superior customer service bhind them. Again, you need to analyze what you want to get from the system. If you're just looking to calculate taxes and get payroll checks, there are a multitude of resources. If you are trying to also retain H R data/info, that narrows the scope of companies that would be prospective providers.
Hope that helps.....

Have been using ADP for the past six years. Periodically, we have looked at other vendors, including Ceridian and Blackbaud, but we continue to use ADP because of its user friendly software, strong customer support, training programs and vendor reliability.

Our company used ADP for many years but was getting fed up with the mistakes. We are now using PrimePay and it is great! About half the price of ADP.

The best way to ensure that you will be happy with any solution is to first spend time isolating the "non-negotiable" functionality that must be present in the application you select. If you write a lot of reports, purchasing a product with a poor report writes is useless no matter how good the customer service. The bells and whisltes should be secondary and actually possess some value for your employees or your organization or they will never be used.

Bagman said it perfectly and if you want to look at a company that is willing to work with you to make sure they are giving you everything you need from start to finish, then I would suggest that you look at PayMaxx. They offer the same products and services as Paychex, ADP and Ceridian and they offer them with Great customer service and very professional staff who care about you and your business. Just another alternative to the big three!
