Discuss how to choose system that will yield the best results, as well as how to maintain it, and how to calculate its return on investment.
We are considering Ceridian Source Link - Source 500 Interface to work with our PS V 7.5. Anyone have any comments about the Ceridian product?

I have used ADP in a number of different formats. Currently, we use ADP Enterprise, which we implemented company-wide. Prior to that, our divisions used ADP PCPW or Pro Business. The ReportSmith for Enterprise comes with NO canned reports. The customer service is very limited. The product software has many, many, many problems and glitches. Determining which company to go with is only part of the issue. Also examine which version of their services and product you are getting. You will find that their reputation varies greatly depending on the product.

I have found Ceridian to be the most valuable tool in my report arsenal. If your HRIS person is good, they can set up Ceridian for numerous custom reports including, new hire reports, termination reports, active ee reports, etc. The system also allows you to indicate the date range that you'd like your report to capture. For instance, you need to run a report for FY02 that shows all terminations by rank, enabling you to create a turnover report an also justify whether your losing your highest ranked employees. Likewise, you can run the same report for any given month. The reports are exported to Excel allowing easy data sorting and pivot tables.

We have used ADP payroll for 16 years. As with any complicated computer process, mistakes and errors can happen. Constant payroll proof and verification processes can minimalize errors. It's easy to blame the payroll company for problems, but few users are in complete control of their payroll process. The payroll company is only as good as is the data and the comprehention of the user. If you don't understand an ADP process, get the background info before you try it.

We find the support at ADP first rate. If there is a problem, our rep is friendly and knowledgable. However, if there is a problem not easily solved, stay on top of the rep until the issue has been resolved. Truly, the squeeky wheel gets the attention!

Have used other Ceridian products (not payroll) and found Ceridian support less than useless. We're very happy to stick with ADP!

ADP caused us several headaches, including selling more than what their software was capable of and sending us incorrect bills almost every month.

When we left ADP, we signed on with Ceridian due to their web-based payroll system. Unfortunately this was worse. Our fist payroll run resulted in half of our payroll checks being calculated incorrectly. It got worse!! Ceridian failed to authorize our payroll checks so our employees were trying to cash bad checks! Once Ceridian was notified, it took them several hours to fix the problem how do you forget to authorize and entire companys payroll? In my opinion, a payroll processing company should be able to process a correct payroll and also make sure those checks are actually worth something!

Go for PAYCHEX - they had us up and running in less than a week after we fired Ceridian.

I have found Ceridian to be the lesser of the two evils. We use Ceridian's Insync product.
Neither are ideal and I have found that as long as there are no exceptions or other reasons that I need to actually contact Ceridian Support, it seems to go reasonably smoothly. Not particularly user-friendly, but once the user adapts to the problems with the system, it can run reasonably well.
My 2 cents...

Here is another ADP/Ceridian/etc question for everyone.

Our London office uses Ceridian Centrefile and they have what is called a "managed service payroll" so that no one on their staff spends more than a few minutes each month on payroll. This kind of service doesn't seem to be too prevalent here in the States. Has anyone found something like that here in the US?

I'm having my first experience with ADP and thank the Good Lord it will be over soon! My company (with alot of prodding from me) will be dropping ADP soon and allow me to process payroll in-house. My first indication that troubles were ahead was when a tech person didn't know what "negotiated" meant..as in "this check hasn't been negotiated." I about fell out of my chair. Not to mention the $300 they wanted to charge us to file an amended 941. If I hear "that's not within the limits of our system" one more time i'm going to scream. My payroll isn't complicated but they can't seem to get it right.

I've used both ADP and Ceridian and liked all the options and functionality of Ceridian. I agree that we encountered alot of technical glitches with Ceridian which made it less than perfect. For simple functionality and superior customer service I'd rank ADP higher - even though I'm not thrilled with it as a user. It's reliable.

ADP is the most expensive, Ceridian is next, and Paychex is the least. I've worked with all three companies; it seems as though the larger the company is the more customer service suffers. I understand that all service companies have great demands: customer service is the most important. I switched from Ceridian to Paychex at the end of the first quarter of 2002, because of poor customer service. I would recommend Paychex.

I've used ADP and consider them my nightmare. Over 5 years and 3 different companys, I had tax problems with all three using ADP (the decision wasn't mine. I finally switched to Paychek and was very happy with them. The product is user friendly and they give you a lot of reports ADP pays for.
I never used Ceridian for payroll but did use them for administering our Section 125. They're another 'WorldCom' who acquired too much and grew too fast. Unless they've fixed their internal problems, you'll get lost in the flow. I found their customer service less than desirable.
