Our company (80 FTE's) is looking at installing and time entry and attendance tracking system. I AM NOT looking for suggestions for hardware/software. What I am interested in is the employee responses

Our company (80 FTE's) is looking at installing and time entry and attendance tracking system. I AM NOT looking for suggestions for hardware/software. What I am interested in is the employee responses you've seen when you introduce a time clock or computer time recording for the first time. Are employees happy, frustrated, suspicious, or do they welcome the change?

The problem children of the group are not happy and know they will get caught and the gig is up. Most of this element will often find ways to claim the system is not working. Even to the extent of spreading mis-information. The key is to communicate early, often, and effectively about the benefits.

You will have employees who love the change, employees who hate it, and employees who are indifferent. Some tips:

If possible, have training to show the employees how to use the system (even if it is easy) or ask the managers to show their teams how to use it.

Also, create an electronic manual with instructions that you can e-mail to employees. A lot of times the written instructions that come with a new system are too complicated; if possible, reduce it to the basics that an employee needs to know to enter his or her time. E-mail that to employes with a note that a complete manual is available upon request. If you have an intranet or internal network, make both manuals available for employees to download.

Ask for volunteers to be the point of contact for their department; they can be the go-to people for coworkers who have questions about using the system.
