Carrie,

Are you looking for software that provides an "always-on" performance management system, including goal setting, tracking, and evaluation? Or, are you interested in something less complex that would allow you to simply automate the evaluation process? Do you conduct traditional PEs (i.e., supervisor ratings) or multi-rater evaluations (e.g., 360 feedback)?

I am also interested in various systems. We are looking for something very basic for a large organization (approx. 60,000 EEs, 10,000 or so would need to be able to use the system).

Our main goal is retention and reporting. All we really need is a system, preferably web-based, that allows the supervisor to enter the ratings for the various objectives and add comments as needed. We want some flexibility in how we weight the rating categories. We don't really need any automated routing processes or electronic signatures because many of our employees don't have or use email at work so print-outs will be used in most cases. We also need to be able to extract and manipulate data.

A reminder/tickler system would be nice, but not necessary as would HRIS interface capability and some flexible reporting capabilities.

Cost is a major issue. Currently we do not have a budget for this, but if we can find something reasonably priced, we think it might be better than developing in-house.

I appreciate any suggested from anyone based on their experience. I am primarily interested in hearing from other HR people or users of these types of systems. I can read plenty of sales information on various websites.

In my previous experience, my company has used AIM - now called Authoria and SuccessFactors. Both handles Performance Management, as well as Compensation (merit & bonus processing). I think both are good, but you may want to see what your company's needs are.

If cost is a major concern, I would recommend HRN (Performance Pro):

http://www.hrnonline.com/

When we tested various systems and interviewed vendors, HRN came out on top, because their pricing structure is much more user-friendly than any other we've encountered. (For example, they are about half of what onCore charges.)

The HRN system works great for us, because we were looking for something that is hosted on the web. This allows all of our employees to access the system just about anytime from anywhere. And unlike some of the other vendors, HRN didn't charge any hosting service fees.

Finally, they have all the features that everyone else has, but we really liked their muli appraiser feature, which means that several managers (or employees) can appraise one person...kind of like 360.

For what it's worth.

Profiles International offers a web based Checkpoint 360 Competency Feedback System. Its confidential with high reliability & validity. There are up to 12 possible participants including the self, 2 bosses, peers & subordinates. It measures gaps in perception & as we all know, perception can be someones reality. It is not encouraged to justify compensation adjustments, however. It takes 15 minutes to complete. Printed reports are available within one week or less. Additionally, it is backed up with a a Skill Builder series that promotes growth & development in areas identified as needing it.

Let me know if this sounds like what you're looking for.
