I invite your valuable suggestions on How you have kept the motivation level high incase of retrench ment/ Lay off. What are the actions and processes adopted by you to maintain the motivation level of the employees retained. Lay off and retrenchment is the order of the day and we are also doing the same. Waiting for your valuable suggestions.
Regards,
Roy.J.George

This is as cyclical as the swallows coming back to Capistrano or the Groundhog. The decressed "motivation" is more of a function of how well or how the layoffs are handled. If they are mismanaged then asking the employees who are retrained / retrenched to be "happy campers" or not worried is about on par with asking someone who's lefe has just taken a major turn and potentially for the worse to "don't worry, be happy." In other words manage the layoffs well, keep all informed, reduce the rumor mill, act as if you care about them and appreciate their contribution in a tough situation, don't deny their feelings of being upset but don't overly focus on them, keep employees focused on the individual and departmental goals, treat them as you would like to be treated. Communicate, communicate, communicate and don't treat them like they are not smart.
