I have been asked to prepare and deliver a presentation to a college class on the Challenges and Perceptions of Training in Today's Corporate Environment. As a corporate Training Manager, I have my own ideas on what those challenges and perceptions are, but would love to get some feedback from other professionals on this topic.
What do you think??

Thanks!

Well, I am a trainer on Disability Sensitivity (WORDS, etc.) and am disabled myself, so take my thoughts with a "grain of salt" - but it seems to me that any training must produce the desired, lasting results, it must be impactful - the people/attendees must be able to not just see but FEEL the message - I think both the head and heart must be addressed! No magic and probably nothing new!

Just a thought, but from I get to see about 100 organizations a year and a theme I would speak to is that most companies still use training as the primary intervention to "Fix" performance, when it is really just one strategy. Not only that, but if you accept that only 10-15% of performance gaps are due to a lack of Knowledge, skills, and abilities, then training should be one of the last things we do to address it. Good luck. dp
