The contents of your training calendar must come from a valid research on what training needs to be imparted to whom. You need to conduct a training needs analysis. Unless this is done, the training calender would remain just as a document.

Here are some tips and questions to ask yourself that I have learned from my experiences:

1. Who needs to see your training calendar? You could make a "master" training calendar in Outlook 2000 and share it out to those that need to reference it (through the "delegates" option under "tools/options"). I also used a large training "white board" of which I would book classrooms, enter the trainer name, number of people to be trained and the length of training. In this way, I would not have to be present if anyone needed to see what training was being held and where. I posted this "training white board" just outside my cubicle for all to see.

2. If others need information for training, what would they like to see on a training calendar that would be helpful to them? Asking your customers is always helpful

A good Training Plan as someelse said must be based on a need. Once that is established use 5 W's to draft the plan in tablular form (easier to read and comprehend)What, Why, Who, Where, When. Some plans also include a "How Much" column.
Hope this helps

Training need analysis is necessary before you design training calendar. You should also observe the company calendar to avoid overlap schedule on company event or busy season.

A Training Calendar is the outcome of your Training Needs Analysis and your Training Plan. It is normally published monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually - depending on your policy. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. An Annual Calendar helps people plan in advance, a monthly calendar would not give prospective attendees enough time to plan their training. On the other hand, if you publish a monthly calendar, the probability of all courses running according to schedule is more than in the case of an annual calendar (a lot of plans can go awry in a year's time!).
A Training Calendar normally consists of the name of the course, the scheduled dates & timings, the name of the instructor, the venue and the course design.
The TNA is normally an outcome of the Annual appraisal where Training Needs are identified. You need to analyse the data for all your employees and identify numbers against courses. This would be an input for your Training Plan. The Training Plan should also take into consideration - as and when it happens - project needs and change in role of employees.

Hello colleagues,
Do you measure the effectiveness of training programs via Kirkpatrick's four levels of evaluation? How have organizational outcomes change as a result of training programs? How can we measure it?
Can you share your opinions with me?

Hi
Some time ago I put a guide together for managers in my organization to help them:
* Identify needs
* Plan training for their people
* Evaluate at a local level

You can access the document for free at http://www.rapidbi.com/resource.html it is called "Guide to training - for managers"

It is also available in the downloads section at http://www.trainerbase.co.uk along with many other downlods from experienced T&D/ OD people.
