Searching for outline/guidelines for developing program for global organization.

New Hire Paperwork is a nightmare. Would like to eliminate from process. Tired of boring lectures. Would like to create a fun, educational and interactive program. Any ideas?

Need ideas for resolving time zone differences, virtual offices, satellite offices, cultural, etc.

Some paperwork you can't get away from - new hires in US must complete Form I-9 to verify employment eligibility; also tax withholding forms.

As far as orientation, for overall company info you may want to consider some sort of online training which the employee could complete at his/her convenience.

Some ideas to try (depending on your level of technology within the organisation):
- orientation video (eg video on demand) giving welcomes from executives, vox pops with staff about what it's like to work there etc. If you can't stream the video, consider a CD that goes out to the person on their first day or before. If that's too high tech, try a written brochure of some type
- web site for new starters, available from anywhere, with links to critical info they need to know. If you can include a discussion board for new people to post questions, and get experts (or yourself) to post answers
- ways to involve the person's supervisor/work team in their orientation, eg checklists/prompts for guided discussion, or scripts for a supervisor to use when inducting a new employee
- video conferencing, if available is good for Q&A sessions

Thanks for the great suggestions. We are fortunate and able to take advantage of technology!

Online training would help solve the problem of time zones, virtual offices, etc. My company (Overnite Software, inc.) has created two versions of a course, one in English and one is Spanish and set them as equivalencies in our LMS to address language issues. This gives the learner the opportunity to choose the one he is most comfortable with. This could also be done with countries (i.e., the US version and the England version).

Online courses can also be very entertaining by increasing the level of interactivity (learning activities and games).

Hope this helps! Jennifer

Here is the solution for streamlining new hire orientation

www.onlineemploymentsystems.com provides online delivery tool for employee handbooks, orientations, or other HR documents that provides date-stamped employee acknowledgements, archived records and more.

Would be interested to find how this worked for your group. I am proposing a similar program.

When your new hire joins your organization they expect to be greeted by people.
e-learning has its place but lets remember that here, when a person starts with our organization we want them to feel welcome. We have invested in getting them in - now lets keep them.

What about developing an interactive workbook where they interact with different departments and teams to find answers?

Remember people have different learning preferences and being sat in front of a VDU to learn will only fit with a percentage of new people.
