I was asked my managment to locate some "simple" (read less work to be done by the managment team) tools to measure the development gap for our potential candiates for key management positions. Can anyone suggest some tools other than 360, assessment centers. I could use the performance appraisal form but that does may not surface up all the gaps such as EQ etc.

I would suggest using Inscape Publishing's Role Behavior Analysis to define the behaviors required for anyone to be successful in a management position with your organization.

I find the job description or competencies describe the "What" to do but no one informs the candidate "How" to be successful.

This tool will identify the "How" and then you can use Performance Coaching to help your candidates succeed.

Email me at john@power2transform if you want more information or to expereince the Role Behavior Analysis.

Have a great day!

I would suggest charting an IDP(Individual Development Plan) for earmakred individuals.
You state target competencies needed for a particular position. Identify the individual's current competencies. Then chart out the training programs and developmetn assigments needed to achieve the target competency.
State the target date for each competency.

Hope this Helps.

Thanks to John and Rashmi for their inputs. I am still on a look out for simple tools to identify gaps in current competencies as compared to competencies needed for future positions for specific individual.

Rashim (or anyone),

I'm trying to structure a retreat around a supervisory assessment, skills gaps, and developing an IDP. The take away should be that each supervisor walks away with an IDP.

Any suggestions?

Hi
If you are still looking for this please contact me as we are in the process of developing a simple "gap analysis" tool using generic competencies. We are looking for organizations to pilot this (for free).
