I am rather new to the training profession and am looking for some advice. I am the only trainer for three hundred employees and am interested in finding other trainers who could act as a mentor in some manner or know of a way to learn more about this profession. I have been in this position for 8 months now and have been working in reactive mode. I am looking to see how I can turn it around and become proactive in this area.

A. Check your company's competency dictionary to ascertain the Skills, Knowledge, Behaviour and Characteristics for every job holder.
B. Update your training database to identify the skills they currently possess.
C. Discuss with line managers on training needs in their functions, also discuss with employees too (sampling)
D. Plan curriculum using the following:

1. Business Strategy: What are the skill required to get to where the company is going?
2. Task: What skills do job holders need to perform effectively on their desk
3. Individual needs: What are the developmental needs from their appraisal

Collate all together and come up with a Training plan/curriculum (which will be flexible so you can update)

E. Design programmes
F. Implement the programme using various learning methodologies expecially action oriented so it will be easier for partcipants to transfer learning to workplace
G. Evaluate effectiveness of each programme to ascertain ares of improvement.

I'm curious to know if you found the help you needed to become proactive in your training role? And if so, what has worked for you?
