Employee Recognition Programs

I wqould like to hear what other organizations are doing to recognize employees. This is separate from performance reviews. What do you do to recognize longevity, outstanding performance. Also what types of things do you do to improve morale, teamwork or comaraderie? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated

At our agency we have several ways of recognizing our employees. There is the "Extra Mile Award" that is given to employees who have gone above and beyond job expectations at anytime Anyone cam nominate a staff memeber. There is $25.00 given along with the certificate. The presentation takes place at our all staff meeting from the nominator explaining why they feel the person they nominated deserves the award. You may receive the award as many times as you are nominated, but are eligible for the cash once per year.

Another incentive we developed to decrease call-ins is a cash award for the employees who have perfect attendance each quarter. We pull the attendance records for each quarter, place the names of each employee who has had zeroe call-ins for the quarter in a drawing. One name for the Intensive treatment department and one name for residential treatment. Each employee who name is called is given $50.00. We send out a memo to recognize the winners and to express our gratitude to the others for their efforts. We also thank everyone for the overall decrease in call-ins for the entire year. It has worked well. We also do a drawing for perfect attendance for the entire year. We put something together this year at the last minute, but are working on providing a worthwhile incentive for employees to try for perfect attendance for the entire year.

When I was internal OD & Training Manager, we setup 2 levels of awards. Spot "Thank you" Awards, where managers could fill out a form and recognize someone for a job well done and the employee got 2 free movie tickets. Then we had an annual "President's Award" where we had a committee of employees review nominations to select people who truly went above and beyond and added value to the company. That was a $500 award and trophy for mutliple people per year.
