We are currently in the process of trying to make our employees more aware of diversity and the cultural implications this may bring. At this time, we are doing a test on a training class for diversity as well as previewing videos to distribute. The largest problem for us is the fact that we are a statewide state agency (which reduces our budget significantly). The videos we have previewed seem to be lacking and are more likely to be laughed at rather than taken seriously.

The next step I'm working on is contact local religious communities to try and get more local involvment. Hopefully, we will be able to bring in speakers and film them to distribute to those in the far reaches of the state.

Does anyone have any other ideas on what we can do? We are trying to incoporate it into our culture, but we need a stepping place to begin. Any help would be appreciated!

Some time ago, I created a map, with the support of several diversity experts, to help try to capture a universe of possible ideas for diversity planning -- I think I called it a "diversity checkup". I have given it away as a freebie, on the understanding that those who use it will try to help me improve it.

It may be a tiny bit dated now, but if it's of any value to you, please help yourself.

If you go to www.visualcongruence.com and then check the tab for "Learn & Explore", you'll find the map. If you use it and come up with any new ideas, please share them and I'll update the map. Good luck.

Cheers,
Brian
