Coaching/Leadership Exercise
A forum for exchanging ideas about skills training, leadership training, management training, compliance training, e-learning, as well as organizational development and effectiveness.
I'm looking for a fun but impactful exercise that uses observation and feedback. Any ideas?

A really simple one is to have pairs of persons stare at each other for about a minute. On completion, ask either one or both participants some questions about the other person - what colour shoes were worn, type of glasses, hairstyle etc. Once this is done ask the person who was being observed to speak about how they felt being observed and what they received from the observer's body language. You can take this down the road of intended meaning by one party and actual reception by receiving parties.

Hope this helps!

I use one where I have a PowerPoint slide or flip chart showing 5 things. Usually 3 are math equations, 2+2=4, 9x9 = 81 ,and then one that is wrong, 2x3=7, and two are single words, one of which is spelled wrong.

I ask the class to tell me about what they see, and almost all people will tell me about the two that are wrong, and do not mention the 3 things I got right.
I then ask them to count how many I got right, and how many I got wrong. And ask them why they didn't tell me what I got right.

The debrief focuses on how it's human nature to fix things, and how we leave things alone if they're working. BUT... how does an employee know what they're doing right if you only tell them what they're doing wrong...
