I need to update our corporate policy regarding professional development (not just executive) and am having a difficult time accessing any examples. Doesn't anyone still use individual pdps anymore? The issue came up at a managers' meeting when someone questioned what the Company was paying for in conjunction with a non-job required class, that is, parking, textbooks, meals, etc. From there, all sorts of questions about pdps followed and we now want to clarify our guidelines according to other companies' policies.

Are you looking for examples of a policy or of a PDP?

Hi PDP's are still used to enable the individual to make the choice - however most company's do not fund personal development (i.e. non work related) but they do encourage it. It is about encouraging a learning habit.

If you are looking for samples of PDP's have a look at http://www.trainerbase.co.uk they have a few listed in the downloads section

I'm looking to update our policy in our Employee Handbook. In the past, we have budgeted $1500 per employee for professional development, which could be seminars, courses, memberships that the employee wants with manager approval. My boss is now saying we could also deduct the cost of transportaion or books or miscellaneous expenses connected to a professioal developoment activity from that stipend . . . However, if it is job-required training, the Company pays for everything. We also have tuition reimbursement at 50% up to $3000 per year.
