I started into motion what I thought would be a perfect business for me. I wanted a business partner and one showed up, WOW.
As I've gotten into it things don't feel as good as when we originally started. I keep second guessing myself. Starting to think maybe this isn't what I thought I wanted.
I quit a job to pursue this and now fear has set in because its two weeks now and no business has come in. My fear wants to send me back out looking for a job with a steady income. I'm a one single family income and have been feeling pretty low about what I've created
In my head I know money can come from anywhere, but I still get caught up in it coming from my work.
I want independence
I want a large, steady, easy flowing income
and I want some help in how to stop resisting it and let it flow in.
Input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi congratulations for make the brave step.
It is a step into the unknown.

A few things you need to know
1) people will not come to you - you need to go to them
2) lead times from starting a conversation about t contract to actually starting can be months
3) people buy people - so ensure you are approachable and make sure they know you are there to solve their problems (take their pain away)
4) some people will want free training to "see how good you are" - don't do it. If they want you they will pay for you
5) be proud of your price - discount ONLY if you have to - biut once you discount you will NEVER be able to charge that client full price.
6) network, network, network

I wish you well

Just a couple of quick comments. You can ease the transition to your own business by working part time for an employee until you build up enough income. I agree with Mike that it can take a long time before the dollars (and profit) start coming in. Having a part time job can tie you over in the meantime.

Some newbies in business offer their services for free or at a heavily discounted rate for the first two or three customers so that they can get those all-important glowing testimonials that they then market heavily. Of course, if you are already well known and well respected in your niche market, then this is not an option that you will need to consider.

Robin: First, congratulations on going out on your own! Every small (micro) business start-up is different and there are no cookie cutter answers to the questions you are asking yourself. The facts are that being in your own business either just you, a partnership, or a corporation will never give you the (false) piece-of-mind that a "job" in corporate america will give you. In my local ASTD chapter we have a constant stream of "new consultants" entering their own business because they have been rif'd yet again by corporate america. As soon as they are employed again they are out of business. In your case you need to make a decision right now if you are in your own business for the long haul or just until you find another job. If the former (and I hope that is the case) begin to build your business one brick, one client, one networking event, and one success at a time. Figure out how you can deal with the money issue (a big one) re savings, relatives, debt, etc. Make a commitment to your business and just do it. You will work harder and longer than you have anywhere in the corporate world but you will find more happiness and satisfaction than you ever imagined.

Congratulations, what is your area of expertise? You may want to work with a Continuing Education or Professional Development department at a university in your area. I currently work with a university and we are constantly using consultants to teach courses and create new programs.
