I have heard of companies offering pre-retirement group sessions on "non-financial" issues. What would be the ROI? Why offer this service to people leaving the company? Thanks in advance!

We offer a 2-day biannual retirement planning workshop to those 10 years from retirement. It includes financial, pension and lifestyle planning. The ROI is that we are acknowledged to support the wellbeing of our employees, gain a positive and motivated employee for the pre-retirement years, often get highly skilled post-retirees back to work as needed, and have a forum to deal with the myriad of questions that take more time individually in HR. This saves HR a great deal of time.
The mix of participants in each session forms a new community (people from all levels of the organization who don't generally work together) as they share an exciting common goal. It breaks down barriers and enhances communication in the current work. I notice when we celebrate retirees at our annual employee awards ceremony, they are highly regarded and share their enthusiasm of our workplace. I think of this as a strong message for retaining employees. |
