Any thoughts on the usefulness of Certified Safety Professional of Certified Safety Auditor designations? I'm solo HR/Safety mgr for a mfr with 300+ employees and am looking to add to my knowledge.

Both of those certifications are good for personal use and credentials, however in your position a practical and useful solution would be the OSHA track for authorizing.
Start with the OSHA 511 course and then the OSHA 501 Train the Trainer. This authorizations allows you to train your workforce and instruct the OSHA 10 and 30 hour courses. They will recieve their cards, good for life, and you will recieve the benifit of exposure and instruction. Not to mention the average cost of going to a consultant driven OSHA 10 is around $260 per student.
Increase your safety knowledge, get authorized, train your employees and save money! Blows the certifications out of the water. Good Luck... -30-

It depends entirely on what you would like to accomplish.
CSP requires educational background and extensive safety experience, completing application, passing ASP & CSP test. It is designed for safety professionals, but studying for the test would be quite an education. It is actual certification and quite highly regarded.
Certified Safety Auditor simply requires studying the material - it is not professional certifiction, just evidence that you passed a test. Far fewer organizations and safety professionals recognize this.
There are other certificate-completion programs offered through NSC, ASSE and other professional organizations.
Again, it really depends on what you want to accomplish, and what you need to learn in order to be most effective.
You should also consider ARM (Associate in Risk Management) if you are involved in that aspect of the work.
Good luck!
