Hi,

Do you either have an onboarding nightmare story you would like to share or... does your organization do a great job at new hire orientation and onboarding? If so, I'd love to hear from you and perhaps, if you're interested, in doing an interview. I'm doing research on best (and worst) practices both for some new articles, two upcoming national conferences, and a book proposal.

If you want info on how to improve your onboarding program, I've got several articles you should find useful:

Not really a horror story, but where I work we had a lovely two-day orientation where we were emersed in heritage and culture and educated on the many benefit options and rewards programs offered and we engaged in several fun activities designed to educate and to create networks and then BAM, on the third day we sat through four hours of intense training on fairly tramatic topics with no debriefing (industrial accidents, sexual harrassment, regulatory enviornment, disciplinary action, etc.) and then we were dismissed to go start our first day of work. I felt like I'd been beaten with a stick. Fortunately they have a much better balance of how they present topics now.
