We offer vacation and sick leave in proportion to the percent of time they put in; i.e. someone who works half time gets 50% of the vacation and sick time that a full time worker gets.

We offer Vacation, sick and personal time for part-timers. Depending on the percent of a full time schedule they work, we offer 25%, 50% or 75% of the vacation, sick and personal time a full timer is entitled to. i.e. if they work less than 20 hrs. per week they get 25%, between 20-30 hrs. per week they get 50%, and more than 30 hrs. per week, they get 75%.

We offer part-time benefits if the person is 'regular part time' someone who is hired for the long term to work less than full time. 'Temporary part time', or someone who is hired for a short term (busy season, summer help, etc) does not recieve benefits. Benefits offered are vacation, sick time, holidays; and 401(k) if their annual hours are high enough according to the plan document. Like the other responders, time off is pro-rated depending on the amount of time regularly worked. We do not offer medical or life to part-timers.

PS. I am employed as 'regular part time', and as a rececipient of the benefits I think it is quite fair.

Harbor offers pro-rated vacation, sick time and persona leave to part-time employees. They also get paid holidays as of our most current union contract.

Hope this helps.

You might also consider offering some innovative benefit options for "regular part timers" that would enhance the benefit package, such as an employee computer purchase plan. Some major companies, such as Libbey Glass, have used this as an enhancement to their benefits, and it was very well received. One of the really great aspects of this benefit is that its very popular with employees, particularly during the holiday season. However, it costs the company nothing more than the incremental cost of administering the associated payroll deductions. If you'd like more detail on how to implement it, feel free to contact me.
