I am trying to implement a sick leave policy. It must be bare minimum in order to do so. I would like to suggest 5 days and in CA, although we can't have a use it lose it policy for vacation, we can for sick leave and I know that I probably will not be allowed to roll it over although I may for a maximum of 10 days available in a year with a cap of 10 days. I would like it to be an accrual based policy rather than lump sum and it will not be paid out at termination. I can set it up based on calendar or EE anniversary year and it will be implemented from the implementation date.
Can anyone suggest what they do or what would be the most beneficial for employees--calendar or EE anniversary? If they lose it just when flu season gets underway, it may not have any benefit.

5 days is reasonable and it makes more sense to use the accrual method. I would also use the calendar year, much easier and less confusion. We use that and we also have a policy that with manager approval they can "borrow" up to 5 days for serious illness or to use during the waiting period we have for our STD. The policy states this will be deducted from the last check if they do not pay it all back before they leave.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
