Tracking Meal Periods in CA

Hello I am looking for best practices on tracking meal periods for non-exempt California employees. Is anyone using a combination of a time tracking system and a paper time card or time clock for hourly employees in CA?
My organization is multi-state and our current time tracking tool is Deltek Vision. The feature is available, however, the tool will not allow us to turn this on for a small population of employees without affecting the entire company.
