We are considering launching a website that would allow HR and Benefit Professionals within companies the ability to rate and review their TPAs, Benefit Consultants, and other service providers. I am looking to get feedback on the usefulness of such a service from HR and Benefits Professionals who hire and manage these vendors.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how useful would it be for you to have access to verified reviews by other HR/Benefit professionals? (1 being least useful and 10 being most useful)

If you have any other comments please provide them. We are trying to bring more transparency into the marketplace and make quality service providers stand out from the pack.

Thanks for your time and attention.

Will access to the results be free?

Exactly how will you verify favorable and unfavorable reviews?

What's in it for you? )

Thanks for your reply. The reviews will be freely accessible to potential buyers.

We will reserve the right to request proof of a relationship through a copy of an invoice or other verification methods. We will also only allow reviews from business email addresses. We have a few other verification methods in mind as well. Service providers can request verification of a review if it is in question. The reviews will be part of a larger site, so we will not need to charge for access. The real goal of this is to provide some valuable information to the marketplace. I recently sold a company that provided services to HR/Benefit professionals. We performed our work very well and of course didn't like losing to those vendors who did not have a commitment to quality. The hope is that this type of service would bring the transparency that is present in the B2C marketplace into the B2B benefits arena.

I would think it would be hard to keep bias out of the reviews. While some are truly horrible providers, sometimes there are truly horrible clients. Or the "fit" just isn't right. Or someone is padding the reviews. Or someone has a vendetta.

There are always two sides to every story and I am not sure that most companies would be allowed by their corporate attornies to post their side!

Personally, we've always chosen due to other relationships that the TPAs have with peers/colleagues, etc. Very rarely have we chosen badly. When we have, we have corrected it quickly. I don't really put a lot of credence into referrals/reviews from people I do not know.

Is this going to be a JDPower type of survey, eg, you survey customers of vendors? Or is this going to be like product reviews on Amazon where any purchaser/client can provide comments? I'm a bit concerned that if its the latter there'll be skewing towards the negative since PO'ed customers tend to submit comments more often than satisfied ones.

I agree with Carl. Unless it's a thorough survey, you're going to end up with more negative responses than positive.

For insurance companies, the NCQA already exists and that's a pretty good resource.

I don't know how much good it would do for brokers/consultants since it tends to be a relationship driven business (C-Suite) and I don't know how many CFO's would log on to a website to check out prospective brokers' scores, especially if the data isn't robust.
