Usually when orders for child support are received we have reference to a court order in the transmittal letter. However, recently we received a request for employee information from a county child support agency asking for rate of pay, earnings, etc. Not a withholding order but an Employer Information Request. Are we allowed to give out this information without a court order cited?

I would contact the county or the state office that deals with CS. I am lucky to work in TX where the Office of the Attorney General is the gatekeeper for CS and they have a whole website handbook on CS alone. We often receive requests for information on wages and benefits so the courts can do a better job on the CS calculation. So it is normal for me to see these.
However it is going to be a bit state dependent. If I did provide it, I always let the affected employee know that it is being provided. And I inform them when I get a CS Order too.

Daily Q&A
How to Address Flagging Motivation?
How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
