In Response to Re: Employee Recognition Awards: We have done some intensive research on this topic and what drives people incl the recognition the receive. Interesting enough is that money does not seem to play the big role as we would think. It is more about the right leadership and having the feeling to be part of something bigger. Here is the access to the full research pieces: http://www.kellyocg.com/Knowledge/Kelly_Global_Workforce_Index/Drivers_of_Career_Choice_and_Career_Progression http://www.kellyocg.com/Knowledge/Kelly_Global_Workforce_Index/Effective_Employers/ May this is offering some new insights. Posted by MichaelKirsten Michael-Reports are interesting but not on point. The question is what are the criteria used for employee recognition awards. The Kelly white paper discusses what impacts the employee's view of the work place and gives the traditional answers that workplace motivation is most effected by the quality of the management and the job content............ |

In Response to Re: Employee Recognition Awards: We have tried all sorts of reward systems. Originally there was nomination process, for those who went beyond their duties to help others, and management voted on the winner (money tied to winning). Also there were merit awards, only going to one or two people annually, was also another try. Problem was that it was tied to how well your 'nominator' was at writing. We now have an Employee Appreciation Committee who make recommendations for how to spend our small amount of recognition money - i.e., for a picnic, hay ride, hot dog roast. The committee members have been frustrated in that no matter what they decide they can't make everyone happy - I did warn them that this could happen. We also have another system where staff members are nominated by each other for going out of their way to help one another - You've Been Caught . The nominations (for the past month) are put in a drawing and one name is selected for a $25 gift certificate of their choice and a reserved parking spot. I am interested in seeing what other are doing with a very minimal budget - Public Library. Elizabeth Beach Posted by ebeach Don't mean to be a grinch but make sure that the $25 is added to the employee's gross income each time it is awarded. |

At our Agency, publicly funded, our annual employee recognition has multiple parts. Service awards are presented by the Executive Director and at least one of the Board of Commissioners. The Safety Team is recognized for their contribution to the Agency and this year they had safety poster/slogan content and the winners were announced (blind voting by the Safety Team). The third part is based on the theme for the recognition. This year’s theme was “A Day With the (Insert Agency/company name) Stars”. We, the HR Department” looked at who received awards or who were recognized for going above and beyond their job, to be recognized with a movie poster created about the event/award. The best reaction was to the poster for a department that recycled used motor oil to heat their building. We made a poster of their manager as “Jed Clampett” from the Beverly Hillbillies. This was a huge hit. Using the movie poster format, we were able to recognize others from the department who were involved in the project. No money or gift was involved. All staff wanted was the posters and PowerPoint presentation made at the event.Everything is done by the HR Department. We work hard to make sure every department is represented in the presentation/recognition. It is not about money or gifts. It is the sincere recognition of a job well done.Below are links to the sites we used to make the posters.Face in hole – any face can be put into pictures of movie posters or TV shows http://www.faceinhole.com/us/scenarios/1/film--tv/most-created/today/1/ Movie Posters – create movie posters with your own pictures and add creditshttp://bighugelabs.com/poster.php |
