We have a relatively new employee (6 mos) who has asked for a job description so that she can clearly understand the responsiblities of her job. Her manager has supplied her with a copy of the job description as it was posted for recruiting purposes. Once a person has actually been hired, should there be changes made to the description that detail things further?

When space permits I usually post the full job description.   Character limits on some web sites require shortening the posting, however.   Normaly I would email the candidate being considered a copy of the JD somewhere in the selectoin process.

Signing a full job description is part of my first day paperwork.

Your employee is showing good behavior in making sure that what she is going to be "graded on" is consistent with what she was advised when being hired.

If the posting is accurate and the job is basically consistent then more details are not necessary.

If what she will held accountable for is not clearly expressed in the JD she was given then she should be provided with same. Perhaps an old fashioned mid year review should be held so that both sides can express their understanding and the employee can gather a view of how she is doing from her supervisor.

Or, to continue with howards comments, a listing of objectives with measurable objectives.  JD's only list job responsibilities, not necessarily the expected deliverable quantities/timeliness/quality/cost measureas of each responsibility.
