If you know of any companies which have casual dress code in financial sector or software industry, I would appreciate if you could share the information. Thank you!

Please be more specific.  When you say software industry, are you talking about a professional services type of firm or software development/R&D. It makes a huge difference as there is far more customer contact in the former than in the latter which certainly impacts dress requirements.  Ditto for the financial sector - what types of companies are you referring to?

In terms of software industry, I am talking about software development. I am actually doing the research for companies which fall into "financial technology" industry, the companies which develop and provide software and services such as trading systems to clients in the financial services sector. Would you happen to know the current dress codes for such companies?

In our call center and in most, the dress code is typically business casual with casual days once a week.  During summer months, the dress code is casual and to another mechanism to boost morale.

I think you will find that in a purely engineering development workplace, the dress code is very casual. Based on what I see at software companies in the local area (eg, MicroSoft, Google), jeans and t-shirts are very common if not the norm.

For customer contact positions, the dress code is at a higher standard but even here I think business casual is acceptable.

In addition to whether the role you're in is customer facing, it is also important to remember that the financial services industry is still fairly conservative. If you want to be considered for promotion to management you of course must be able to walk the walk, but you must also fit into the organization's culture. While the dress code for the tech department may be casual (jeans and tee shirts) it might be more appropriate to stick with business casual (slacks and collared shirt or blouse.) If you are talking about the technology group's dress code, again, to gain credibility with the business side, try to fit in - business casual at least.

That said, I've seen a lot of tech organizations in financial services organizations with very casual (my opinion, too casual) dress codes.

I agree with the input you've received already and you do need to be more specific in terms of your research.  While a particular industry, especially in tech, may be casual for most employees, there may be a requirement for those that interface with their customers.  You should look within the occupations to see how people dress within them.  For example, you might find a programmer or developer wearing shorts and a t-shirt, but the C-Suite and upper management may present themselves in a more professional way.

Get a little more granular within your research for a true picture.  Good luck!

From some of my friends company in the financial sector, most of them only wear professional outfits Monday to Friday, they only go casual on Saturdays, some of my friends in other companies wear professional/semi professional look monday up to thursday then casual on fridays. some companies provide "wash day" shirts for fridays. not sure for companies in general but I haven't really seen that much shift with dress code trends.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
