Thanks to you all for the thoughtful comments on how to revive traffic to the forums. I like the idea of a "question of the week" concept -- even if it's self-created - as a way to generate more discussion. I'd be interested in how we could connect those ongoing discussions to our editorial coverage online and in the magazine. Any ideas on prospective questions, anyone? All and any ideas welcome...

Don't you already use this approach in your blogs? They don't seem to be drawing a lot of comments either. Just sayin'...................

We need to find a way to "advertise" that there is FREE advice available from experienced HR Pros available to assist/suggest solutions to your "burning platform".

Yes, there are times I have extra work time on my hands. So by reading, researching and answering questions of other posters here and on other HR/payroll forums, I find that time valuable to my increasing knowledge of HR issues that might not directly or immediately impact my job.  It also keeps me fresh on issues that do directly impact my job.

However, my bosses are more than happy that I participate because often I have found that something I research/post to is something that I then need within a short period of time. The latest example is the sick time abuse question.  I am in the middle of a situation that is similar. It is good to see others responses as it gives me a wider circle of perspective.  Will it change how I handle it? Maybe.

I find this especially helpful because I am the only HR person in the corporation AND we no longer have internal legal counsel that I used to be able to brainstorm with (even  on non legal issues).

Actually I think a little more snarkiness might attract more participants!

Let me suggest we look at a format that makes it easy for the reader. One such format is at hrtoolbox.com.

Here is a sample page

I hate to say it, but given the relative lack of response to this thread and overall lack of new postings anywhere, I'm thinking these forums are pretty much dead.  I think we've had more Asian Escort spam postings over the past several months than we've had postings from HR professionals.

Not a snarky post, just a personal observation and opinion.

Nork, you make an interesting point. We appreciate your continued discussions in the forum as well as pointing out the lack of traffic. We've noticed it too and are working to boost it. Thanks for your patience, support and the onloing conversation.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
