Well said. We cannot thank our veterans and those currently serving enough for thier sacrifice.

Thank you.

Let me ask that to truly thank a Veteran...give them a job.  They sacrificed a lot and they certainly need our help in return.

Good point HRPro. I saw commercials over the Veterans Day weekend that Chase is sponsoring a 100,000 jobs initiative aimed at veterans. Sounds very impressive. It also got me to thinking, what types of jobs are they (and the other corporations involved in the mission) looking to fill? Earlier this year McDonald's had its well-publicized push to hire 50,000 workers in a day. Perception to me was those jobs were mainly front-line counter jobs at minimum wage. Maybe that's apples to oranges compared to the Chase initiative. Curious though what kind of jobs Chase etc. hopes to place the returning vets.

They may be lower level jobs, but in this economy a job is a job. And if there's promotion potential and benefits, all the better.

I think the real aim here should be to remember that we have a committment to affirmatively select Veterans ( and other underrepresented groups) when we have openings (assuming job qualifications are met). So often this is not pressed enough in the hiring decisions.

Veterans Day, formerly Armistice Day, is an annual United States holiday honoring armed service veterans. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11.

Daily Q&A

How to Address Flagging Motivation?

How do I increase motivation levels in the department? How do I brand my business unit as an attractive place to work? I have top-notch IT professionals in my business unit who feel they are "children of a lesser God" because they are non-billable resources and do not get plum postings abroad, nor the glamour that goes with them. As a result, their motivation suffers.
