The National Student Records Clearinghouse stores student "Directory Information" as defined by FERPA, from 7,300 post secondary institutions, allowing the nation's employers a single point of contact for verifying educational attainment.

Why? Quite simply it is a matter of economics! The demand for educational verification is growing dramatically. More than 50% of all job applicants have attended more than one higher education institution. Over 30% of applicants materially misrepresent educational attainment on applications for employment.
