I am researching for a story about the stressors in the workplace and society in general, and how individual workers are beginning to behave in dysfunctional ways that are inappropriate and even risky. We're looking at a whole array of behaviors--chemical abuse, violence, etc., and would like to present case examples--how were they addressed so that other Human Resource professionals will be able to learn from the experience. Addressing seriously dysfunctional behavior in the workplace may be risky for the personal safety of managers and can raise legal issues. Does your company have affiliation with an employee assistance program? The EAP provides trained professional counselors who deal with every sort of problem in a confidential, one-on-one manner. They also hold seminars in which case studies are presented to HR professionals for learning purposes and instruction in handling stressed-out employees. Many EAP programs exist. If this type of program could help, call a health care facility in your area for referral. |
