Your company can hire an in-house counselor, or outsource the EAP activity. If it is a small organization, a part-time counselor who comes in once or twice a week may be what you need. The counselor would typically be a psychiatric social worker or psychologist who provides individual counseling and assessment and makes treatment recommendations and referrals. To find a qualified individual, contact local hospitals or universities.

Many larger organizations outsource. Try NEAS, online www.neas.com or 800-634-6433. They provide local in-person services, work/life resources, critical incident assistance and crisis intervention. Also very good are Compsych (www.compsych.com) at 888-882-0771, and VMC Behavioral Healthcare Services at 800-843-1327 (this one is more focused towards big companies).

EAP is typically offered as a health care benefit paid for by the company and administered by HR.
