I always liked "Personnel", or "Employment Services"; I agree that HR sounds impersonal, and implies that the people are just another physical asset. Accounting isn't called "Fiscal Resources", Purchasing isn't "Procurement and Retrieval Resources", Maintenance isn't "Sanitation and Reparation Resources", and so on..
Besides the awkward title, it just seems so odd that someone really felt it necessary to specify "humans".

Hi,
Well, for instance, South West Airlines have a 'PEOPLE DEPARTMENT'.
I know a MD of a company who hated the word HRD so much that he named this department as 'ICU' (INTERNAL CUSTOMER UNIT).
You could also go for 'YOUR DEPARTMENT' or 'EMPLOYEES' DEN'.
Happy exploring!

I'm a fan of "People Organization".
