One of our sr. managers has proposed having a quiet time in the office, where no one is allowed to interact w/ others in the office for 60-90 minutes per day. I think this is a great way to let people catch up on paperwork, outside communications, etc. I believe the idea will be well recieved by most employees, does anyone out there do anything similar? How's it work? How's it enforced?

Any input would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with it, but would be for it if I worked at your company - does that mean I could nap??!! . . . you know someone is going to ask you that!

I'll be interested to see how it's enforced.

I am aware of a number of major mortgage lenders having "quiet time." However, it is limited to no phone calls to be received or answered during that time frame. It is there for the luxury of the underwriters and processors to catch up on paperwork. Sorry no naps to the best of my knowledge.

Got any openings-i could go for a job with no pager, desk phone, cell phone, or e-mail disturbances for even 10 minutes a day-but I guess HR is the wrong career choice for that!

This sounds great on paper, but I think it would be difficult to enforce. I've not heard of this before and you might consider working up to 60-90 minutes a day. A lot depends on the size and nature of your organization. In addition, it may not be right for all staff and all departments. Why not try piloting it in one department? Ron
