We were a long time user of ADP's payroll product before moving over to Ceridian's Source 500 HR/Payroll product in January 1999. Unfortunately we have not had a good experience with Ceridian's product. When creating database reports, data is omitted and when processing changes and payroll, what we input doesn't always seem to be what we get. As a result, we are considering returning to ADP. I am interested in anyone else's experience with either company.

At a previous employer we used ABRA. They have various packages such as basic HR (employee info.), absenteeism, training, payroll etc. We didn't use the payroll function but were considering it. I loved ABRA and had no problems with it.

We still do our PR in-house, and had just swapped from a home-grown HR database to a commercial product, and swapped PR systems from Open Systems to SBT's Accounting pkg. I've had a great experience with PeopleTrak, and the data interfaces with our SBT p/r system.

I've used Ceridian, ADP, Genesis and ABRA. Didn't like Ceridian, ADP payroll is ok but I intensely dislike ADP's HR Perspective, have used Genesis which was user friendly. ABRA was the best for both payroll and hr. Wish I had it here...

I've used both Ceridian and ADP in my currrent job. Intensly disliked Ceridian, was quite disatisfied with their cust. service response, reporting, etc. ADP is very user friendly, report are easy to read, cust. service is excellent. ADP is also expensive. IMHO, of course. I don't use their HR Perspective, only PC Payroll. I use ABRA HR Suite for recordkeeping, seems to work well although I don't have experience with any other program to compare it too.
In a previous job, we also switched from ADP to Ceridian and back again to ADP for the same reason you did. I would not consider using Ceridian again.

We went from an in-house payroll system to Ceridian and have regreted it for the last 2 years. We are now speaking with ADP but are not sure they will have what we need but their cust. svs, report system, etc has got to be better than Ceridian.

Thank you for the helpful feedback! Can you tell me what you didn't like about Ceridian and ADP's HR Perspective? I don't like Ceridian either, but need to make sure that it's for something substantial, not just cosmetics or lack of a user friendly environment. And as for HR Perspective, that is the alternative we're considering, so I REALLY need to know what I'd be getting into there. If it would be more convenient to communicate by phone I would be happy to place the call to you if you would e-mail your number. E-mail address: dkramer@ccow.com.

Thank you! The more I hear of stories like your's, the more justification I think I have in asking management to spend the extra bucks that returning to ADP would cost us.

If you really want to stay with out-sourcing payroll, try maintaining your own HR program. That way regardless which service you decide to go with/change whenever, you don't have to change your HR things each time. I use ABRA and I know both ADP and Ceridian can work with the program. I have considered about outsourcing the payroll a few years ago and after quite a bit of research, I arrived at the conclusion that in-house is better (unless you have multiple states - I had as many as five states and I was still OK doing in-house)
I used to use MAS90 for payroll. But after doing the research, switched over to ABRA and happy with it. I use both the payroll and HR function. It has few things that I wish it can be improved upon, but I think it's one of the easiest to use and pretty comprehensive.
