Right now, my company "posts" vacation once per year. This means, all employees get their lump sum of vacation on Jan. 1. I would like to switch to an accrual system and calculate accruals on a month

Given that you don't have the budget to buy any software (the vendors posting here don't seem to have noticed that part of your post - and BTW vendors, this isn't an advertising forum anyway), I reco you find someone at your company with advanced+ level Excel skills and have that person develop an automatic accrual spreadsheet for you. Then all you'll have to do is update the spreadsheet as vacations are taken, and as employees come and go. I had this done for me once - it only took the Excel expert an hour or so to put it together - and it worked beautifully.

Yeah, I would like to get my hand on that excel too; looks like an interesting option to the really expensive out of box software solutions out there.
