How much do you reimburse?

What are the qualifiers?

How do you know the employee is using the health/fitness club?

Do you think it is a worthwhile benefit?

Before the economy went south, we offered a small gym reimbursement incentive of $100 for employees that went to a gym at least 50 times in a six month period. The employee had to present a receipt from the gym to prove the number of visits.

We offer a gym membership benefit to our employees for a specific health club. We pay all enrollment fees and pay 50% of the monthly cost (amounts to apx. $26/month). The employee pays the other half through a post-tax payroll deduction. We also allow employees to enroll one other person (limited to spouses, domestic partners, and dependents); we pay the enrollment fee for the person, but the employee must pay the entire monthly fee.

We offer a fitness reimbursement program and pay 1/2 of the annual membership fee for the employee only, up to $200 per year. The employee can also use payroll deduction for their part of the membership. When we had an in-house Weight Watchers program, we also reimbursed 1/2 of the membership fee.

We offer an annual $200 fitness reimbursement. The employee can claim on anything fitness-related with the exception of home equipment and food. Gym memberships, sports, nutrition clubs, etc. are all eligible.

Our wellness program offers up to $15 a month to be applied to approved wellness expenditures. We are fairly liberal with the interpretation of that. For instance, an exercise bike costing $300 will set up the $15 for 20 months. They bring in the receipt and are on the honor system to use it and to advise us if they dispose of it.

We don't allow it for food, but will for vitamin supplements and the like. We even allow it for therapuetic massage. Running shoes, kayaks, golf clubs, green fees, gym memberships, run/walk fees, gym clothes (narrowly construed), and the list goes on.

The money is put into payroll and taxed.

We reimburse the employee portion of gym membership. Each year we require proof of membership.
