I am looking to revamp our attendance policy because our current policy does not seem to be doing the job. Does anyone have experience with Point System Attendance Polices or have a policy that works

I am looking to revamp our attendance policy because our current policy does not seem to be doing the job. Does anyone have experience with Point System Attendance Polices or have a policy that works for them that they would be willing to share?

I would offer that it is possible that your policy is just fine. If it isn't doing the job the first place I would look would be at those charged with enforcing it. When managers do not manage then bad things happen. Do not let them make you the scapegoat or the "lord high executioner".

I am also interested in general no-fault "points" attendance policies. I think it would be much simpler than our current absences, occurrences and incidents language that confounds most managers and sometimes even us.

I'd also like to build some flexibility by having two "free" days that don't count against you.

In general companies with earned time off that can be used at the employee's discression for emergencies, holidays, vacation, sick days, etc. have less issues with absenteeism than those with designated days.

But I agree with the pro, it is not a good policy to start "rewarding" folks for coming to work.

You may want to consider the TimesheetPlus software of Datamatics. This Point System can be arranged to assign either positive or negative points to employees based on attendance behavior. By using this points system, our managers have been able to objectively analyze attendance activities.
